Perception Study Results of New Banknote Feature to be Presented at Public First
The industry’s acknowledged banknote perception expert, Professor Jane Raymond, is studying a yet-to-be launched banknote security feature. The results will be presented for the first time at the Public First conference in Malta, hosted by Crane Currency on March 13-16.
“I have a pretty good feel for what a banknote should look like. But a feel is not enough.
I’m really looking forward to sharing all the exciting data coming out of this study”, says Jane Raymond.
Jane Raymond is CEO of Secure Perception Research, Ltd and Professor of Visual Cognition at the University of Birmingham. For more than 15 years, she has been engaged by many of the world’s leading central banks to assist in the development of their banknotes.
The new study is assessing a new type of security feature. It has a particular ‘trigger feature’ currently not used on any banknote, and while very difficult to reproduce, it is designed to be very easy for the public to verify.
Of the study, Crane Currency’s Marketing Director Tod Niedeck remarked, “New security technologies always claim to be better but often result in trade-offs between counterfeit resilience and ease of use. When it comes to understanding how the public will verify a feature, Professor Raymond uses proven, science-based techniques to take the guess work out of assessing a feature’s usefulness to the public.”
