The Impact of Substrate Choice on Banknote Design

A banknote designer has a responsibility to meet all different requirements put on a banknote – including both the functional and aesthetic demands. The choice of substrate is also very important since it has an impact on the design and the choice of security features.

Karin Mörck-Hamilton, Director, Global Design at Crane Currency, was interviewed by IBDA Insight from the International Banknote Designers Association. In the article, she gives her view on the design challenges working with substrates and how everyone involved should get to know the final product and how it will be used.
